How it works

From first enquiry to first lesson

Four steps, and you can stop after any of them. Most families are booked in within a few days.

01

Tell us about your child

Their age, the instrument they are drawn to, and whether they have played before. A quick intro sentence will do.

02

Come in for a trial lesson

$12 for 20 minutes, credited to your first term if you continue. Your child plays something by the end of it, and you are welcome to sit in.

03

Weekly lessons, in term

Eight or nine lessons a term and a recital (twice a year) to work towards.

At home

What you will need

Nothing at all for the trial lesson. Once your child is going to keep going, three things make the difference between lessons that stick and lessons that fade out.

Something to play on

A basic key keyboard or guitar is enough for the first year. We will tell you what to look for, and what not to spend money on yet.

A short practice habit

Ten minutes on most days beats an hour on Sunday. The teacher sets the week up so your child knows exactly what to do.

Somewhere it can live

An instrument left out in a warm part of the house gets played. One packed away in a case after every lesson usually does not.

Questions

Before you book

You do not have to work it out. Book a trial lesson and the teacher will place your child at the right level on the day — the age bands above are a guide, not a rule.

All lessons are 45 minutes to help facilitate activities and creative learning sessions.

We will try our best to make up 1 lesson per term with at lease one week notice. Lessons missed without notice cannot usually be rescheduled, since the teacher’s time is held.
