Questions and answers

Everything parents ask us

If your question is not here, please send it through the contact form.

Before you book

Your child meets their teacher, tries the instrument, and plays something by the end of it. It runs 30 minutes in total (20 minute lesson followed by questions), costs $12, and you are welcome to sit in. If you carry on, that $12 is credited to your first term.

We teach children aged 5 to 12, on keyboard, guitar and intro to music. Get in touch if your child is a little older or younger and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.

Book a trial lesson and the teacher will place your child at the right level on the day. The age bands on the Lessons page are only a guide.

Usually not, but it depends on the child rather than their age. The question we ask is whether they can sit and focus for about twenty minutes with an adult beside them. If they cannot yet, we will say so and suggest you come back in six months.

Lessons and practice

Not for the trial lesson, and not for the first few weeks. Once we can see your child is going to keep going, they will need something to practise on. We will tell you exactly what to look for.

Ten minutes on most days beats an hour on Sunday. The teacher sets the week up so your child knows exactly what to do. With younger learners we ask that this is parent supervised.

Tell us early. Most of the time it is fixable: the wrong piece, the wrong time of day, or a week where something else was going on. If it is not fixable, there is no lock-in beyond the term you have paid for.

Keyboard and guitar for the moment. We also offer Intro to Music classes for those looking to explore all things music.

Fees, terms and exams

Lessons are $190 for the term. Each term consists of eight or nine lessons. A trial lesson is $12, credited to your first term if you continue. Lessons are invoiced at the start of each term and run for the ten weeks of the school term. The full list is on the Lessons page.

Let us know before the day and we will find a make-up slot in the same term where we can. Lessons missed without notice cannot usually be rescheduled, since the teacher’s time is held for your child. We offer up to 1 make-up lesson per term, where possible.

No. Exams are there for the students who want them and quietly ignored for the ones who do not.

Safety and the room

Always. There is seating in the room and in the hallway. Some parents sit in every week, most stay for the first few and then read in the car. If you do choose to sit in, we ask that there is minimal shuffling around to help learners focus as best as they can.

Still have a question?

Ask us before you book there is no such thing as a silly question about your own child.
